Product Description

The saying “God is good, but never dance in a small boat” is a charming Irish proverb that reminds us that even if we trust in God or divine protection, we should avoid reckless risks. So, it’s a gentle nudge to be cautious and not do anything foolish.

A characterful blend of Irish wit and coastal craft, this one-of-a-kind ornament transforms a real Galway Bay oyster shell into a miniature sailing boat.

The shell, gathered from the Atlantic shoreline, forms the natural hull—its rugged textures and organic shape preserved and enhanced with a protective finish. From its centre rises a mast of twisted copper wire, adding warmth, strength, and a subtle sense of movement.

The sail bears the words “God is good, but never dance in a small boat” a playful and memorable phrase that brings humour and personality to the piece. The sail is carefully secured to the mast with fine copper wire, adding a delicate, handcrafted detail.

The entire piece rests on a smooth porcelain tile base, grounding the form and elevating its display—allowing the oyster’s natural beauty and the boat’s sculptural silhouette to be fully appreciated. The transparent adhesive connecting the oyster to its base reflects light like water, evoking the oceanic atmosphere. This clear bond creates the illusion that the shell remains embraced by the sea.

Each piece is individually made, ensuring no two are ever the same. A unique Irish keepsake or gift, it captures the spirit of the sea with a lighthearted twist—perfect for those who appreciate craftsmanship with a touch of humour.

Please note that any embellishments/sculptural shapes may not perfectly match the colours or designs shown in the photographs. This is because each piece is handmade and unique. Each piece is individually made to order. Each shell passes through multiple stages of preparation and finishing to achieve a high-quality result. Please allow 4-10 days from the order date for your piece to be completed before it is dispatched.

These are wild, natural oyster shells gathered from the west coast of Ireland, and each one varies in size, shape, and natural markings. The average shell measures approximately 2″ × 3″, though some may be slightly shorter or taller, wider or narrower. As each piece is hand-decorated, the artwork will also vary, making every trinket dish truly unique. Any embellishments on the shell may change in design from time to time.

_____________

We believe that every shell has a tale to tell. Our oysters are from the west coast of Ireland, picked from the waters of the world-famous “Galway Bay” part of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

Shells are genuinely one-of-a-kind gifts because no two are alike. They are tumbled by the wild Atlantic Ocean waves and shaped by the changing seasons, resulting in varying sizes and shapes. We work with what nature has given us. Variations such as; growth marks, ragged edges, chipped backs, and barnacles make each one special.

Every shell is individually picked, cleaned, prepared, hand-painted and decorated by our artists at our studio in Galway, Ireland.

Whether you receive this as a gift or purchase it for yourself as a decoration, a memento of a trip, or for friends or family to mark an occasion or relationship, you are becoming part of this Oyster’s tale.
