Product Description

This wire sculpture, titled the Windy Tree, depicts trees commonly found along Ireland’s western coast.

The windy tree is frequently seen in western Ireland — the Burren and Connemara — where trees often lean over in exposed areas due to strong winds. They are typically hawthorn, often called “fairy trees” because they are believed to be portals to the spirit world and homes for fairies. They hold a special place in Celtic folklore as sacred and protected spaces.

This wire tree sculpture is crafted from copper, which will develop a dark patina over time, turning into shades of green and blue. It is positioned on a mound or Irish moss, along with natural pebbles that mimic the rugged landscape these trees typically inhabit in Ireland. The oyster itself enhances the piece’s rugged, natural feel, and it is fitting, as oysters also originate from Ireland’s coastal regions.

The oyster rests on a porcelain tile base that highlights the shell’s rugged exterior. Its sculptural form gives it an almost architectural presence. The transparent adhesive connecting the oyster to its base reflects light like water, evoking the oceanic atmosphere. This clear bond creates the illusion that the shell remains embraced by the sea.

Please note that any embellishments/sculptural shapes may not perfectly match the colours or designs shown in the photographs. This is because each piece is handmade and unique. Each piece is individually made to order. Each shell passes through multiple stages of preparation and finishing to achieve a high-quality result. Please allow 4-10 days from the order date for your piece to be completed before it is dispatched.

These are wild, natural oyster shells gathered from the west coast of Ireland, and each one varies in size, shape, and natural markings. The average shell measures approximately 2″ × 3″, though some may be slightly shorter or taller, wider or narrower. As each piece is hand-decorated, the artwork will also vary, making every trinket dish truly unique. Any embellishments on the shell may change in design from time to time.

_____________

We believe that every shell has a tale to tell. Our oysters are from the west coast of Ireland, picked from the waters of the world-famous “Galway Bay” part of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

Shells are genuinely one-of-a-kind gifts because no two are alike. They are tumbled by the wild Atlantic Ocean waves and shaped by the changing seasons, resulting in varying sizes and shapes. We work with what nature has given us. Variations such as; growth marks, ragged edges, chipped backs, and barnacles make each one special.

Every shell is individually picked, cleaned, prepared, hand-painted and decorated by our artists at our studio in Galway, Ireland.

Whether you receive this as a gift or purchase it for yourself as a decoration, a memento of a trip, or for friends or family to mark an occasion or relationship, you are becoming part of this Oyster’s tale.
