Product Description

The design is of a physical miniature 3D globe of the world on a Native Irish Oyster. The light can catch the globe – giving a lovely glow against the globe’s pearl background.

The visual plays on the piece’s title, “The World is Your Oyster”, is a  life affirmation quote with a great positive, confident-boosting message.

The theme also reflects Ireland’s historical legacy of emigration. Throughout the centuries, many Irish people have left their homeland searching for new opportunities and experiences abroad. The globe on an oyster encapsulates the idea that no matter where they may go, the Irish carry their homeland with them, symbolized by the oyster, while embracing the diverse cultures and experiences they encounter, represented by the globe.

The use of a Native Irish oyster shell in this artwork holds cultural significance. Oysters have long been associated with Ireland’s coastal regions.  Incorporating this element into the artwork pays homage to Ireland’s rich cultural heritage.

The Native Irish Oyster, or Ostrea edulis, is a prized delicacy that seafood lovers have enjoyed for centuries. It’s not as common as it used to be and is typically harvested between September and April only.

Beyond its visual appeal, these artworks also serve as a tribute to Ireland’s deep-rooted history and rich cultural heritage.

_____________

We believe that every shell has a tale to tell. Our oysters are from the west coast of Ireland, picked from the waters of the world-famous “Galway Bay” part of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

Shells are genuinely one-of-a-kind gifts because no two are alike. They are tumbled by the wild Atlantic Ocean waves and shaped by the changing seasons, resulting in varying sizes and shapes. We work with what nature has given us. Variations such as; growth marks, ragged edges, chipped backs, and barnacles make each one special.

Every shell is individually picked, cleaned, prepared, hand-painted and decorated by our artists at our studio in Galway, Ireland.

Whether you receive this as a gift or purchase it for yourself as a decoration, a memento of a trip, or for friends or family to mark an occasion or relationship, you are becoming part of this Oyster’s tale.
